Planes follows five aeroplanes through history and across the skies of Berlin and Aleppo. Their journey connects the stories of three generations of a family: The grandfather who was a teenage apprentice in an aircraft factory in Berlin during World War II, the father, an amateur pilot landing at a historic airport in 2008 and the daughter, filmmaker Ina Schebler, who meets a young man building a new life in Berlin, and hoping to visit his old home one day.
Planes was produced as part of #LibraryOfStories, a digital storytelling project by the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (Central and County Library Berlin).
Over a period of one week Glocal Films trained 13 Berliners from various countries of origin (with and without refugee experience) to tell their own stories about their life in Berlin.
The resulting two-minute short films will form a permanent part of the ZLB collection on the online platform ‘Berliner Großstadtgeschichten’.
