It was a surprise indeed, when government restrictions did not allow any filming outside the classroom. More of a surprise though was the resilience and creativity of our young film team in the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan, when they decided to stick to their original film script and use animation instead of filming on locations. The resulting film is a tongue in cheek criticism of gender roles in Uzbekistan.

This film was produced as part of EinBlick’ (InSight) our trilateral intercontinental video exchange project that we developed in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut as part of their worldwide school network PASCH, to create a dynamic and growing platform that connects groups of students and their schools. EinBlick promotes and enables an intercultural dialogue through the medium of film.

In each country the students produce two short films that are entirely based on their choice of topic, filming skills and editing decisions.

Through the exchange of the films, the participants explore the lives of their partner groups, get to know each other through their differences and similarities learn from each other and question and discuss prejudices. Each trilateral exchange culminates in a final film, that is based on the dialogue and captures the groups discussions, their questions to each other and the answers.
